NC Watermelon Festival
Ever see a watermelon tip the scales at more than 150 pounds? You’ll see that and a lot more by attending the annual North Carolina Watermelon Festival the third weekend of July in the friendly small town of Fair Bluff.
The festival’s centerpiece is a contest to determine North Carolina’s biggest watermelon, along with a contest for the best tasting watermelon. Other activities include live music, festival food and games, pageants and a parade led by the reigning North Carolina Watermelon Queen. Saturday night’s “Delight and Dance” has become a popular ticketed event featuring a well-known regional band. The festival takes place beside the Lumber River where a rubber duck race occurs, and there are opportunities for tubing and kayaking.
