Banding Hummingbirds
The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences at Whiteville invites you to join us for “Meet Me at the Museum: Saturday Explorations,” a free family-friendly science and nature program offered the third Saturday of every month. This month, the Museum welcomes Susan Campbell, Wildlife Ecologist and Research Affiliate with the NC Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh. Campbell will present her program, “Banding Hummingbirds,” on Saturday, July 21, 9:00 a.m. – noon. Take an up-close look at hummingbirds, learn how to properly handle, record data on, band and release hummingbirds. This program will take place entirely outdoors. Wear closed-toed shoes and be prepared for the weather. A water bottle is recommended.
Campbell received her BS in Wildlife Biology from Cornell University and a MS in Ecology from NC State University. She has been involved in research and education with a primary focus on birds for over twenty years. She has been the lead hummingbird researcher in North Carolina since 1999 and has banded over 5,000 hummingbirds across the state.
Admission is free, but donations are appreciated. For more information, please contact the Museum at 910.914.4185 or whiteville@naturalsciences.org.
